Eloy Ortiz Oakley, a longtime higher education leader and outspoken advocate for learners of all backgrounds brings his 30-years of leadership experience and his extensive network to the podcast microphone. He highlights some of the more pressing issues affecting post-secondary education and pulls no punches along the way. He interviews some of the best known people and innovators in higher education and dives into the policy issues and politics that shape today’s higher education environment.

Eloy Ortiz Oakley

Growing up in the Southeast Los Angeles community of Florence-Firestone, Eloy did not go to college right out of high school. Instead he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served proudly and honorably for four-years, spending most of his service in the 82nd Airborne Division. After his service he began raising a family and found his higher education journey at a community college. His first-generation, adult learner experience shaped his higher education leadership for more than 30-years. During that time he served as president of Long Beach City College, chancellor of the California Community Colleges, member of the Board of Regents for the University of California, senior advisor to U.S. Secretary of Education, Miguel Cardona and president & CEO of College Futures Foundation. He has also serves on several boards and is an advisor to ed tech companies.
